WORLD LITERACY DAY OBSERVED AT INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH

The Reading Club from Department of English of Indian School Salalah celebrated International Literacy Day on 8th September 2025, with the global theme for 2025 “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era.” The programme was thoughtfully designed to highlight the importance of literacy as the foundation of lifelong learning and empowerment in today’s world.
The celebration commenced with a formal welcome by Ms. Dhriti V-C, followed by a thought-provoking video on the significance of International Literacy Day. Ms. Shivananda VIII-E from the Reading Club delivered an insightful speech, emphasizing the role of literacy in shaping responsible global citizens.
Vice principal Mr. Mammikutty graced the occasion with his presence. Adding richness to the event, the Assistant Vice Principals, Dr. Vipindas and Mrs. Anita Rose, addressed the students. Dr. Vipindas emphasized the importance of digital literacy, highlighting how responsible use of technology can open new avenues of knowledge and creativity. Following this, Mrs. Anita spoke about the transformative power of reading in nurturing empathy and imagination. Their insightful words inspired students to cultivate a balanced approach to both reading and technology. The programme also featured the Multilingual Reading Pot Activity presented by Reading Club members of Classes VI, VII, and VIII, showcasing the diversity and beauty of languages through engaging reading presentations.
The Head of the English Department, Mr. C.T. Ramasamy, addressed the gathering and shared his valuable insights on the evolving concept of literacy in the digital age. He highlighted the importance of nurturing strong reading habits while simultaneously developing digital competencies to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
To further enhance the celebration, poster-making activities were conducted. Students of Class VII created posters on “International Literacy Day Celebration” while Class VIII prepared posters on the theme “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era.” The best posters were displayed in the school quadrangle, drawing admiration from teachers, parents, and peers alike.
The event concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks by Ms. Abigail V-C, extending gratitude to the Principal, Vice Principal, Assistant Vice Principals, teachers, and students for their support and enthusiastic participation. The programme not only celebrated the essence of literacy but also encouraged students to embrace creativity, innovation, and awareness in the digital age.
