NATIONAL SPACE DAY CELEBRATED IN IS SALALAH WITH A QUIZ IN ASTRONOMY

The Government of India has declared August 23rd of every year as National Space Day to commemorate the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, which achieved the historic soft landing of the Vikram Lander at Shiv Shakti Point and the deployment of the Pragyaan Rover on the lunar surface on 23rd August 2023.

To mark the National Space Day, the Science Department of Indian School Salalah organised a variety of activities for different grades. As part of this celebration, the Astronomy Club conducted an Astronomy Quiz Competition for students of Classes IX to XII.

After the preliminary rounds, four teams comprising four members each qualified for the final round, which was held in the school auditorium on Sunday, 24th August 2025. The quiz was conducted by Mr. Latheesh (Maths faculty), who served as the Quiz Master. The audience included students of Class XI Science, while the Physics teachers of the Science Department provided technical support to ensure the smooth conduct of the competition.

First position was secured by team Aries. Team members: ADIT MADHAV (IX D), BHAGAVATH PRIYA PILLAI ( XI A), NAZMEEN VATHUKKAPARAMBIL SAFEED (XI A), ANEETA SINI SHIBU  (XII D). Second position was secured by team Pegasus. Team members: NEERAJ NITHA RAVEENDRAN NAIR (XII D), ASHID SUDHEERUDEEN (XII B), AMIR SUDHEERUDEEN (IX E), NEHAN AHMED KADAWALAM (IX C).

The quiz turned out to be a stimulating one-and-a-half-hour event, sparking enthusiasm, curiosity, and scientific spirit among all present including Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar, who was an attentive audience of the Quiz. He appreciated the efforts of the Quiz master Mr. Latheesh Chandran, the Science department that organized the quiz and all the participants of the quiz.  The winners were felicitated with great applause. The Astronomy Quiz not only celebrated India’s remarkable space achievements but also inspired students to explore the fascinating world of astronomy and space science.
