INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH RE-OPENS AFTER THE SUMMER BREAK WITH IN-HOUSE CPD SESSIONS

Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is a vital aspect of teaching career, providing teachers opportunities to grow professionally, refresh skills, and adapt themselves to the ever-evolving educational environment. In alignment with this vision, Indian School Salalah organized a series of in-house CPD sessions on Saturday, 19 July 2025. The sessions aimed to empower the teaching staff for the upcoming academic year through meaningful engagement, collaboration and reflection.
The day commenced with a general staff meeting where the Principal, Mr. Deepak Patankar shared key updates and outlined the focus areas for the academic year, emphasizing the importance of strategic planning in academics, sports, co-curricular activities in compliance with school quality standards.
The first session of the day, titled “From Observation to Intervention: Teachers as Mental Health Allies,” was facilitated by the School Counsellor, Mr. K. A. Latheef. This interactive session focused on enhancing teachers’ awareness of students’ mental health, especially in the post-COVID context. Teachers shared real-time observations, and Mr. Latheef enriched the session by presenting a case study that underlined the role of teachers in early identification and support for students facing emotional or behavioural challenges.
The next part of the day focused on improving language skills. In the AV Room, a session on Speechcraft was conducted by Toastmasters Mr. Binoy C. A. and Mrs. Renu Jethin from the English Department. It included speaking activities and exercises to build confidence among teachers. The session concluded with a note of appreciation from Mr. C. T. Ramasamy, HoD of the English Department.
At the same time, Mr. Amit Rathod led a session called English Language Enhancement – Writing Skills,’ which focused on helping teachers to improve their writing. It was interactive and filled with activities that helped teachers to understand how to organise their thoughts and write effectively. Another useful session, ‘Write Right and Talk Right,’ was conducted for the primary teachers by Mrs. Elizabeth, who gave helpful tips to improve both speaking and writing through sentence correction and group discussions.
The final segment of the day featured model demonstration classes across various subjects. Mrs. Ambika P. (Social Science faculty) presented a session on ‘Globalisation’, while Mr. Shinoj Thomas (HOD, Science Dept.) explained ‘Nuclear Reactions’. Mr. Mohammed Idrees T. (Mathematics faculty) introduced engaging strategies to teach ‘Equations’. Mrs. Subha T. S. (Science-primary subject in charge) demonstrated ‘How Plants Make Food’, fostering curiosity and critical thinking. Mrs. Ancylin Raphael (English faculty) guided teachers through structured writing with a session on ‘Paragraph Writing’ and Mrs. Ramsheeda (Primary faculty) conducted an interactive class on the ‘Life Cycle of a Butterfly’ using visuals and storytelling to enhance learning.
The CPD programme concluded on an inspiring note, energising the faculty with practical strategies to enhance teaching and learning. The presence of the Principal Mr.Deepak Patankar, Vice-Principal Mr.Mammikutty, AVPs Mr.Vipin Das and Mrs.Anita Rose, HoDs, and Section In-charges added great value through their encouraging words and active participation, fostering a strong culture of collaboration, support, and professional growth within the school community.
