INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH CELEBRATES GANDHI JAYANTI

Indian School Salalah commemorated the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with great enthusiasm and reverence across all sections of the school. The celebrations, held on 6th and 8th October 2025, aimed to honour the life and teachings of the Father of the Nation and to inspire students to live by his timeless values of truth, non-violence, simplicity and peace.

Kindergarten Section marked the occasion with a special assembly that beautifully reflected Gandhiji’s ideals. The programme began with a warm welcome, followed by the symbolic entry of Gandhiji, portrayed by Mrithvik of UKG-B, which set a reflective and respectful tone for the event. A visual presentation on Gandhiji’s life was shown, with teachers thoughtfully guiding the young learners through the lessons.

Three UKG students shared inspirational quotes by Mahatma Gandhi and the children enthusiastically recited the Cleanliness Pledge under their teacher’s guidance. The assembly concluded with the National Song of India, followed by the National Anthems of Oman and India, instilling a deep sense of patriotism. Each class later participated in a creative activity related to Gandhi Jayanti.

The Gandhi Jayanthi Assembly for Classes I and II was held on 8th October 2025. The programme began with a welcome speech by Nehemiah Kurian Shijo (Class 1H), followed by the prayer song “Where the Mind is Without Fear.” Farah from Class 2F unveiled the details of the programme. Students presented a mime performance on the life and values of Mahatma Gandhi. Ayansh of Class 2D appeared as Gandhiji and recited a short self-introduction poem. The mime conveyed Gandhiji’s values through four short scenes: •Peace is better than fighting – Class 2B, •Cleanliness is next to Godliness – Class 2F, Truth brings peace – Class 2I and Kindness is like sunshine – Class 2A. Miss Mubeena also presented the story of Gandhiji’s Three Wise Monkeys, emphasizing “See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil.” Towards the end, Miss Rekha Prasanth led all students in a pledge. The programme concluded with the National Anthem and an inspiring address by AVP Mrs Anita Rose, who appreciated the teachers’ efforts and encouraged students to follow Gandhiji’s principles.

The  Gandhi Jayanti celebration for Classes VIII–XII took place on 6th October 2025 on the school main stage. The assembly began with a warm welcome, prayer song, and news reading, followed by a special presentation titled “Echoes of Gandhi” by Angel, Ishan and their team, depicting Gandhiji’s teachings of truth and non-violence. Abdur Rahman of class 5 who enacted as Gandhi captured the attention of the audience. A quiz on Gandhiji by Alan and Kusham was interactive, while Ramsha’s poem and Rithika’s thought for the day added depth to the event. A memento was presented to Miss Sahana Balaji by the Principal Mr Deepak Patankar for designing the cover page of the calendar.

The celebration concluded with the singing of the National Anthem, filling everyone with a sense of pride and patriotism. The day’s events not only paid homage to the Father of the Nation but also motivated students to live by his values and contribute to building a better nation. Specifically, Class XI F played a key role in organizing and conducting the assembly for the senior section (Classes VIII–XII), ensuring smooth coordination and active student participation. Their efforts helped to make the event engaging, informative, and meaningful for the students.

Various events were organized on the occasion. Classes VII & VIII: Slogan Writing Activity on Gandhiji’s values — Truth, Non-violence, Simplicity, Cleanliness, Peace, and Patriotism. The best slogans were beautifully displayed on class notice boards. Classes V & VI: Colouring Activity — students coloured a picture of Mahatma Gandhi and wrote a meaningful quote below it. Classes III & IV: Craft Activity — students made the Three Wise Monkeys using ice cream sticks, representing “See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil.” Guided by a classroom video, the activity promoted creativity while aligning with the school’s values of integrity and discipline.

The Gandhi Jayanti celebrations at Indian School Salalah provided students of all age groups with enriching opportunities to understand and reflect on Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring legacy. Through assemblies, creative activities and artistic expressions, students learned to embrace Gandhiji’s timeless principles of truth, peace, cleanliness and compassion, making the celebration a fitting tribute to the Father of the Nation.
