INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH CELEBRATES BIODIVERSITY DAY
Indian School Salalah marked Biodiversity Day with engaging and educational activities, fostering a deeper understanding of environmental conservation among its students. The event saw active participation from students across various classes, guided by their English teachers and class teachers.
A key highlight of the celebration was a flyer and a video song titled “Biodiversity” featuring facts from the World Wildlife Fund posted in all class groups of classes 1 and 2. Class teachers were instructed to show the video in their respective classes during the teaching period. Teachers discussed the importance of Biodiversity Day and helped students identify plant and animal species, which deepens their understanding of Earth’s biodiversity and its significance. To encourage young minds to appreciate nature and biodiversity, a fun activity sheet titled “BIODIVERSITY IS LIFE, BIODIVERSITY IS OUR LIFE” was distributed. Activities included ecological shadow matching, coloring puzzles, and scavenger hunts—fun ways to help children connect with the environment. Students were encouraged to go on a nature walk with their parents, observe their surroundings, and note down the number of plant and animal species they saw
In classes 3 and 4 a creative “leafy animal” activity was organized by the English teachers. Students showcased their artistic talents by crafting intricate animal figures using both fresh and dried leaves. This hands-on activity not only encouraged creativity, it also subtly educated students about the diversity of flora and the importance of natural resources.
In addition to the creative endeavor, class teachers facilitated informative sessions by screening videos emphasizing the crucial role of biodiversity. These videos effectively conveyed the significance of protecting our planet’s diverse ecosystems and the impact of human actions on the environment. The children thoroughly enjoyed these sessions, demonstrating keen interest and engagement.
Overall, the Biodiversity Day celebration at Indian School Salalah under the guidance of AVP Mrs. Anita Rose was a notable success, effectively blending creativity with education to instill a sense of environmental responsibility in the younger generation.
