As part of its environmental awareness initiatives, Indian School Salalah organised a Beach Cleaning Campaign on Thursday, 15 October 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. under the leadership of the HSE Club, in collaboration with the Eco Club and the Social Science Department. The initiative sought to promote environmental awareness, encourage responsible waste disposal, and motivate students to play an active role in protecting the natural environment.

The clean-up drive was inaugurated by Dr. Shaji P. Sreedhar, Treasurer of the School Management Committee (SMC) and Chairman of the HSE Committee. In his inaugural address, he emphasised the shared responsibility of students and the wider community in safeguarding the environment and conserving natural resources.

Principal Ms. Saher M. A. Sayed addressed the gathering and encouraged students to uphold the values of cleanliness throughout their lives. Stressing the importance of civic responsibility, she remarked, “Cleanliness is a service to society.” Her message inspired participants to view cleanliness as a collective responsibility and an essential aspect of responsible citizenship.

Vice Principal Mr. Mammikutty welcomed the gathering, while Mr. Unnikrishnan, Head of the Social Science Department, proposed vote of thanks. He expressed gratitude to the school management, participants, parents, and officials of Dhofar Municipality for their valuable contributions to the successful conduct of the programme.

A total of 41 students from the HSE Club and Eco Club, along with teachers, non-teaching staff, and parents, actively participated in the campaign. Officials from Dhofar Municipality supported the initiative by providing gloves and litter-picking sticks to all participants, ensuring that the clean-up activity was carried out safely and effectively.

Working together, the participants cleaned the beach with great enthusiasm, demonstrating a strong spirit of teamwork, environmental stewardship, and community service. The initiative earned appreciation from the local community, reflecting the positive impact of the school’s efforts to promote a cleaner and healthier environment.

The Beach Cleaning Campaign proved to be a meaningful initiative that reinforced the importance of collective action in environmental conservation. It also provided students with a valuable opportunity to translate environmental awareness into practical action, reaffirming the school’s commitment to nurturing responsible citizens who care for their surroundings and contribute to a sustainable future.
