INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH 2026-2027 REPORT WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY

June 5, 2026

Indian School Salalah observed World No Tobacco Day on May 31, 2026, by organizing a highly focused and impactful awareness program jointly coordinated by the school HSE Club and the Social Science Department. The initiative was driven by a crucial objective to educate young minds on the severe physical, psychological, and social risks tied to nicotine and tobacco consumption. Recognizing that the students are highly exposed to curiosity, social media trends, and negative peer pressure, the event was designed to equip them with the critical thinking skills that is needed to make them responsible and focus on health-first life choices.

The significant event was graced by the presence of the Principal, Mr. Deepak Patankar, the Vice Principals Mr. Mammikutty and Mrs. Ambika Padmanabhan, Social Science department HOD Mr. Unnikrishnan, In-charges, teachers, and the entire student body. The program successfully delivered a powerful, multi-sensory message through a well-coordinated blend of digital media, peer education, and artistic expression.

The session commenced with a brief; high-impact video produced entirely by a talented team of students. This visual narrative effectively contrasted the false glamour of smoking and vaping with the harsh biological realities of addiction. Following the video, a comprehensive slideshow presentation was delivered to break down the scientific aspects of nicotine. It detailed how addiction alters brain chemistry, discussed the recent spike in youth-targeted alternative tobacco products, and shed light on the economic and social fallout of long-term usage.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from students across different classes, who created interactive posters and charts that raised awareness and fostered a spirit of social responsibility among the students. To bring an emotional and uplifting energy to the event, students performed a beautifully composed melody. The song utilized the power of music to resonate with their peers, driving home a celebratory message of choosing life, vitality, and health over chemical dependency. The awareness initiative also featured an eloquent speech by Ms. Zaina Fathima of Class XII, who highlighted the global significance of World No Tobacco Day.

Following the student presentations, the administrative leadership of Indian School Salalah took the stage to offer foundational guidance and reinforce the core values of the campaign. The Vice Principal, Mrs. Ambika Padmanabhan, shared valuable, practical insights, encouraging students to build the mental fortitude required to say “no” to negative influences. She pointed out that peer pressure is easily countered when an individual is firmly anchored in knowledge and self-worth. Additionally, the Head of the Social Science Department, Mr. Unnikrishnan, spoke to the gathering, emphasizing the societal role young people play in shaping a tobacco-free future.

To solidify these educational components into a tangible personal commitment, the event transitioned into a formal mass pledge. Led by Master Riteesh of Class XII B, the entire student body stood together to earnestly take the World No Tobacco Day Pledge. The students solemnly resolved to entirely abstain from using or experimenting with any form of tobacco or nicotine products while actively motivating their families, friends, and acquaintances to lead a tobacco-free life.

The event culminated in a seamless integration of peer-led creative performances and structured guidance, executed under the expert coordination of Mrs. Anandi and Mrs. Harshitha, faculty members of Department of Social Science and with the invaluable support of the school HSE Club.

During the formal proceedings, Master Dharmik delivered the Vote of Thanks. On behalf of the organizers and student body, he expressed sincere appreciation to the school administration, leadership, faculty, and students for their dedicated guidance, constant encouragement, and enthusiastic participation, which collectively ensured the initiative a resounding success.

The event left a lasting impact, leaving the students not only deeply informed about the hidden dangers of addiction, but also actively empowered to serve as ambassadors for a healthier, smoke-free lifestyle.
