INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH NURTURES “HEALTHY SMILE” AMBASSADORS THROUGH HSE DENTAL AWARENESS SESSION
May 10, 2026
SALALAH, May 6, 2026 — The auditorium at Indian School Salalah came alive with excitement and curiosity as students of Classes 5 and 6 gathered for a lively and meaningful session on dental health. Organised by the HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) Club, the session on “Dental Hygiene and Healthy Living” left students not only informed but truly inspired.
The highlight of the day was the presence of Dr. Abubacker Siddique, a renowned Consultant Dentist, who connected instantly with the young audience through his warmth and passion. With his longstanding association with the school—as a former President and current Member of the School Management Committee—his visit felt both special and personal.
Rather than delivering a formal lecture, Dr. Sidique turned the session into an engaging learning experience. He spoke about how oral health is closely linked to overall well-being, helping students understand that caring for their teeth goes far beyond just having a bright smile. Using simple explanations, he introduced them to the different types of teeth and their functions, making the “anatomy of a smile” both fun and easy to grasp.
One of the most impactful moments came when he explained how cavities form—and more importantly, how they can be prevented through simple daily habits. His practical tips were easy for students to follow, making good dental care feel achievable.
A clear favourite among the students was what he called the “Soft Secret”—his advice to always use a soft-bristled toothbrush to protect gums and to replace it every four months. To bring this to life, he demonstrated the correct brushing technique, turning an everyday routine into something students were eager to practise.
The session ended on a high note with an interactive quiz that had students eagerly raising their hands, excited to share what they had learned. Their enthusiastic participation reflected how deeply they had connected with the session. Prizes awarded by Dr. Siddique added to the joy, with many students leaving the stage smiling with pride.
The event was smoothly anchored by Grade 12 students. Ms. Afrah Ashique, set the tone with a thoughtful introduction, Ms. Parvathy Unnikat extended a warm welcome, and Aizza Mohammad Iqbal concluded the session with a heartfelt vote of thanks.
In his closing remarks, Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar expressed his sincere appreciation to Dr. Siddique for his time and dedication. He noted that the doctor’s genuine affection for students made the session truly memorable. The presence of Vice Principals Mr. Mammikutty and Mrs. Ambika Padmanabhan further highlighted the school’s commitment to nurturing not just academic excellence, but also the overall well-being of its students.
The session ended with more than just knowledge—it sparked awareness, responsibility, and a sense of pride among students, who walked away as young ambassadors of healthy smiles.
