INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH ORGANIZED A READING CLUB ACTIVITY

On February 10, 2026, the School Reading Club, under the English Department, hosted an engaging literary event in the school auditorium. Designed for students from Classes 5 to 8, the program aimed to foster a genuine love for literature that celebrates the beauty of multilingualism, and sharpen analytical skills. The morning was attended by students, faculties, and school administrators, creating an atmosphere of intellectual curiosity and creative energy.

The event commenced with a warm welcome from student anchors Parv (7C), Shwera (8D), and Zoya (8A), who set the stage with the inspiring quote: “Books make great gifts because they have whole worlds inside of them.” The ceremony was graced by the presence of Vice Principal Mr. Mammikkutty, Assistant Vice Principals Dr. Vipin Das and Ms. Anita Rose, the Head of the English Department Mr. Chidambaram Ramasamy, and Primary Subject In-charge Ms. Rachel Sajith.

The atmosphere grew even more vibrant with an interactive Reading Quiz conducted by Ms. Anagha, centered on the classic novels Wonder by R. J. Palacio and The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Students participated with great enthusiasm, showcasing their impressive familiarity with these beloved stories.

The excitement of the quiz transitioned into a time of reflection as faculty members shared their perspectives on literature and importance of reading. Mr. Chidambaram Ramasamy, HOD, Department of English, shared a nostalgic insight into the novel The Secret Garden, reminding students that reading is the true foundation for excellent writing and critical thinking. Vice Principal Mr. Mammikutty then addressed the modern challenges of digital distractions, beautifully illustrating his point with a quote from the Malayalam poet Kunjunnimash: “Vayichal valarum, vayichillagilum valarum. Vayichal vilayum, vayichillagil valayum” (If you read, you will bloom; if you don’t, you will wither).

The momentum continued as Dr. Vipindas, Assistant Vice Principal addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of the quiz session and the vital role reading plays in a student’s life while encouraging even more participation in the coming years. This was followed by an insightful and interactive address by Ms. Rachel Sajith, Subject Incharge, regarding the undeniable link between consistent reading habits and language proficiency, encouraging students to return to physical books rather than spending time on online games.

The highlight of the morning was the “Multilingual Reading Pot” activity, where four student teams presented book summaries in various languages, providing a unique multicultural perspective on storytelling. These teams used vibrant narratives and deep analytical insights to bring their chosen books to life, earning loud applause from their peers.

The entire program was impeccably coordinated under the capable leadership of Ms. Urvi G. Ahya, the Reading Club in-charge, along with Ms. Anagha Raj from the English Department. Their combined efforts made this activity a grand success, creating an engaging atmosphere that fostered both learning and enjoyment.

The event concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks by Ms. Urvi (English Faculty), who expressed her gratitude to the administration and the entire department for providing this opportunity. As students left the auditorium, they were reminded of the club’s powerful mission: “Keep reading! Keep growing!” This enriching event will be remembered as a testament to the power of books in broadening minds and building a community of enthusiastic young readers.
