INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH ORGANISES BEACH CLEANING DRIVE

As part of the Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations, Indian School Salalah organized a Beach Cleaning Drive on 13th October 2025 at Dhariz Beach, Salalah. The event was a joint initiative of the HSE Club and the Eco club, aiming at fostering environmental awareness and encouraging community service among students.

The programme commenced at 4.30 pm with great enthusiasm and active participation from the school community. Mr. Unnikrishnan, Head of the Social Science Department, extended a warm welcome and introduced the objective of the event. This was followed by an inspiring inaugural address by Dr. Shaji P. Sreedhar, Chairman, HSE Sub-committee, who emphasized the importance of taking small yet consistent steps towards cleanliness, beginning at our homes, as these efforts collectively pave the way for a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations.

Mr. Mohammed Al-Gazal, Checking Inspector from Dhofar Municipality, graced the occasion and appreciated the school’s efforts, encouraging both students and the staff to continue such impactful initiatives. Assistant Vice Principal, Dr. Vipindas too addressed the gathering and highlighted the significance of individual responsibility in maintaining cleanliness and safeguarding the environment. He also expressed his delight at the enthusiastic participation and commendable spirit of teamwork displayed by everyone.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 36 students, comprising members of the HSE and Eco Clubs, along with 20 teachers from various departments and several parents – all united for the noble cause of environmental conservation.

The Dhofar Municipality extended generous support by providing garbage bags, gloves and waste-picking sticks, ensuring a safe and well-organized clean-up drive. The participants actively took part in the cleaning mission, showcasing strong commitment and teamwork throughout the programme.

The closing ceremony featured a vote of thanks by the Vice Principal, Mr. Mammikutty, who appreciated the efforts of the students and all attendees. He encouraged students to engage in such community service activities, reminding them that it is essential to instil a sense of responsibility and social commitment.

The Beach Cleaning Drive which concluded at 6 pm not only contributed to a cleaner beach but also served as a meaningful lesson in environmental responsibility and community service. To refresh the participants, snacks and juices were distributed at the end.
