UN DAY CELEBRATION AT INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH

Indian School Salalah celebrated the United Nations Organisation Day on 23rdOctober 2018, in the school auditorium. The Social Science Department, brought together the students of class IX to commemorate the momentous day.
Mr. Unnikrishnan, the Head of Social Science Department talked about the importance of the day followed by the welcome speech by Ms. Muthu Valliammai Saravanan of class IX.
To celebrate this day the students performed a mock parliament session of the United Nation General Assembly. Master Aboobacker and   Master Viswajit assumed the designations of the President and the Secretary General, headed the assembly respectively.
The programme got off to a rousing start with the opening address by the President Master Aboobacker. He drew the attention of the delegates with all the various problems faced by the refugees.
As per the United Nations’ Charter, the opening sessions are addressed by the Secretary General, so the President invited the Secretary General to address the session. Master Viswajith in his address told that refugees and refugee protection had become a global issue and advised the representatives to articulate their views on the issue, ‘Mass Exodus’- a challenge of the 21st century.
Student delegates representing different countries also debated their views about the  problem of refugees, faced by the modern era. Each delegate spoke in his/her own national language. The English version of the address was displayed on the screen. After the discussion, the motion was put forward in the Assembly for voting. As majority of the countries supported the motion, it was passed in the Assembly. The president sincerely urged every member nation to kindly open their corridors for the refugees. Ms. Janani Srinivasan Anusha of class IX proposed the vote of thanks.
