Observing the tradition and imbibing the true spirit of Keralites, Indian School Salalah celebrated the 68th birth anniversary of Kerala with great splendour and grandeur, on 4th November 2024 in the school auditorium. 'Kerala Piravi' is the celebration of the formation of Kerala state by the unification of Travancore, Cochin and Malabar in 1956. The celebration portraying the tradition and culture of Kerala was designed and presented by the Malayalam Department.

Dr. Abubacker Siddique, President, School Management Committee presided over the function as the chief guest. The occasion was graced by Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar, Vice Principal Mr. Mammikutty, Assistant Vice Principals Mr. Vipindas and Mrs Anita Rose, HODs, teachers and students. The Chief Guest, accompanied by the Principal, Vice Principal, and Assistant Vice Principals, was led to the stage in a lively procession accompanied by the rhythmic beats of ‘Panchari Melam’, ‘Thaalapoli’ and the vibrant colours of ‘Muthukuda’. The day’s celebration commenced with an enthralling ‘Chenda Melam’ by Master Rayan Shaiju and Renin S Babu of class XII. It was then followed by the prayer song ‘Vaazhuthunnu Natha…….’ to invoke the blessings of the almighty. Miss Shivanya of class X E delivered the formal welcome address.

The Chief Guest inaugurated the function by lighting the traditional lamp, a symbol of auspicious beginnings. He then engaged the students, posing questions about the formation of Kerala, which they answered with enthusiasm. In his address, he emphasized the importance of being responsible citizens while also cultivating empathy and a spirit of helpfulness. Principal, Mr. Deepak Patankar, in his speech, highlighted Kerala's stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. He also praised the simplicity and kindness of the Keralites, accentuating how these qualities define the spirit of the state. Assistant Vice Principal Mr. Vipindas, captivated the students with a poignant story that illustrated the importance of hard work and its profound impact on one’s future. He urged them to embrace a disciplined lifestyle and to firmly oppose drug use, stressing the need for resilience and integrity in their choices. It was then followed by the address of the Assistant Vice Principal, Mrs Anita Rose. She stressed on the importance of prioritizing sustainability. She advised the students to nurture and preserve Kerala's rich language, art, and culture. Acknowledging that change is inevitable, she encouraged them to be the catalysts for positive change.

Celebrating the festivity, students in traditional Kerala attire put up a very colourful and extravagant display of cultural extravaganza. The audience was enthralled by a melodious group song that glorified the land and its language, with lyrics and music composed by Mr. Saji K. Chandrodayam from the Malayalam Department. The Poem ‘Thirike Yathra’ written by the renowned poet Mr. Murugan Kattakada was recited by Master Vasudev of VII H and it drew the special attention of the viewers. The graceful movements of Mohiniyattam performed by the senior students to the popular lullaby "Omana Thinkal Kidaavo…" left the audience spellbound. A scintillating group dance by the senior girls to a medley of songs, and an energetic fusion dance by the middle school boys further entranced the crowd. The cultural programme concluded with a dynamic performance by the middle school students, set to the musical rhythm of the famous poem "Ariyanam," also penned by Mr. Murugan Kattakada.  The vibrant performance of the students was appreciated by all.

The celebration concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Master Rishikesh of class IX H. The enthusiastic compering team comprised of Miss. Devananda and Master Gautham of class IX and Miss Shazia and Miss. Rena of Class X. The celebrations filled the mind of the spectators with the memories of communal harmony and the vast heritage of Kerala.
