The Annual Athletic Meet of Indian School Salalah was held on Friday, 30th October 2024. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Mohammed Ali Bait Ali Sulaiman, Associate Professor of Marketing and Chairperson of the Department of Marketing & Entrepreneurship, College of Commerce and Business Administration, Dhofar University, Oman, who was the chief guest for the occasion.

Dr. Abubacker Siddique, the President of the School Management Committee, the school Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar, Dr. Sanyo Moosa, Chairman of the Sports Sub-Committee, and other esteemed members of the School Management Committee warmly received the Chief Guest, Dr. Mohammed Ali Bait Ali Sulaiman. The event began with a general welcome and assembly of athletes, followed by a guard of honor for the Chief Guest by the Scouts and Guides, accompanied by the student office bearers. The school Head Boy, Master Muhammed Shamlal, and the Head Girl, Miss Alqama, welcomed and escorted the Chief Guest to his seat.

Dr. Sanyo Moosa, a member of the SMC and Chairman of the Sports Sub-Committee, introduced the Chief Guest to the gathering. He welcomed the parents, invitees, guests, students, and staff to the athletic meet. He also commented on the commitment and hard work of the students under the guidance of the Physical Education Department. He highlighted several areas such as chess, Kho-Kho, and track and field events in which the students have excelled at the CBSE Cluster Level. He praised the girls’ Kho-Kho team for representing Oman in the recent nationals.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Mohammed Ali Bait Ali Sulaiman, was presented with a bouquet by Dr. Abubacker Siddique, the President of the School Management Committee. As per the school’s tradition, the Meet flag was hoisted by the Chief Guest, accompanied by Dr. Abubacker Siddique, Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar, members of the SMC, and other administrative members. Following the hoisting of the school flag, Mr. Mohandass, Head of the Physical Education Department, presented the Annual Sports Report that highlighted the achievements of ISS in sports for the AY 2024-25.

As a token of love and gratitude, the Chief Guest, Dr. Mohammed Ali Bait Ali Sulaiman, was presented with a memento by Dr. Abubacker Siddique, along with his colleagues in the SMC and Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar. In his address, he expressed gratitude for being part of the ceremony. He conveyed his excitement at seeing the achievements of the young athletes and acknowledged that these accomplishments were the result of the efforts of students, parents, and teachers. He remarked that he could see the future of India in the faces of the young students standing before him.

On this occasion, Dr. Abubacker Siddique addressed the gathering. In his presidential address, he stated that sports have always been an integral part of the school’s vision. He pointed out that each sport provides valuable lessons beyond the classroom and emphasized that sports play a vital role in a student’s development. He further added that in the coming years, the School Management will focus more on developing additional sports facilities to ensure greater participation.

The president’s address was followed by the declaration of the Meet as officially open by the Chief Guest, Dr. Mohammed Ali Bait Ali Sulaiman. Thereafter, the previous year’s Group A Champion, Master Ashmil Asharaf, performed the Athletic Meet torch-bearing ceremony, parading around the school grounds amidst the cheers of the students. This was followed by the oath-taking ceremony, administered by Master Ashmil Asharaf. After the national anthems of Oman and India, the track events for the day commenced.

The hula hoop competition for Class 2 was a vibrant spectacle, capturing the attention of all who gathered to witness it. The graceful Zumba performance by the tiny tots of Class 2 was nothing short of mesmerizing, their movements embodying a delightful blend of rhythm and innocence. Meanwhile, the colorful ball drill executed by the students of Class 4 stood as a testament to their exceptional skill, impeccable synchronization, and tireless dedication to practice. Class 8's students, representing the four Houses, took center stage with a breathtaking display of strength and unity as they formed a stunning human pyramid. Their performance showcased an unparalleled test of balance, coordination, and resilience, leaving the audience in awe of their remarkable talent.

The Chief Guest enjoyed every moment of the competition. The track events for the day included various races such as 50 meters, 100 meters, 80 meters, 200 meters, and 4x100 meters relays for different categories. The excitement peaked during the finals of the 80 meters and the relay races. The Champion House, Coral, emerged victorious with 128 points in Groups A & B, while Sapphire House secured the runner-up position. In Groups C & D, Sapphire House claimed the trophy with 135 points, with Amber House as the runner-up. In the Primary Section, Amber House bagged the Championship with 51 points, while Sapphire House was the runner-up. Miss Manal Aleemuddin Khaja of Coral House, who won the maximum points in Group A, was declared the School Champion of this year’s athletic meet. Another highlight of the event was the parents’ events. These fun-filled competitions for parent couples were won by Mr. Ravi and Mrs. Sampurna (1st Prize), Mr. Ramees and Mrs. Nafseena (2nd Prize), and Mr. Gautam and Mrs. Gayatri (3rd Prize).

The trophies and medals for various athletic events and cluster events were awarded by the President of the SMC, Dr. Abubacker Siddique, Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar, Vice President Mr. Yaser Mohammed M.V., Convenor Dr. Muhammed Yousoof, Treasurer Dr. Shaji Sreedhar, other members of the SMC, Vice Principal, AVPs, and the dignitaries present. The Chief Guest, Dr. Mohammed Ali Bait Ali Sulaiman, distributed the prizes and trophies to the Group A individual champions and the winning and runner-up houses.

The Meet concluded with the lowering of the School Flag, followed by  vote of thanks by Mr. Kumar Gopala Iyer, a member of the School Management Committee. The atmosphere echoed with the cheers of students for their houses and school. It was a day filled with sportsmanship, enthusiasm and memories to cherish
