Indian School Salalah celebrated ‘No Tobacco Day-31 May’ on 28 th May 2024 to raise awareness on the harmful and deadly effects of use of tobacco. Students from Kindergarten to class XII took part in the ‘NO Tobacco Day’ celebration. The kindergarten students commemorated the day by colouring pictures depicting the dangers of tobacco.

The students of grade 1 to 4 marked the day with a special assembly, featuring Mrs Angel Roma D’Cruz’s address on the role of education in preventing usage of tobacco. This was followed by an engaging video presentation, tailored to the students’ age group, ensuring that the message was clear and resonated with them. Students were encouraged to share their newfound knowledge with their families and friends. They also eagerly participated in creating posters and badges, proudly pinning the badges onto their uniforms.

The Social Science department along with Health, Safety and Environment Club organized series of activities for grades 5 to 12. The morning assembly commenced invoking the Almighty’s blessings, setting a serene and reflective tone for the day. Master Aarav Anoop and Master Robin Reshnith of class 7 delivered an emphatic speech on the importance of tobacco free life- style. This was followed by a pledge administered by Miss. Anushka Manikandan of class 7.

Students designed posters highlighting the health risk of smoking and the need to quit. Placards depicting impactful slogans were used for campaigning against the usage of tobacco. A session on the harmful effects of tobacco was organized by HSE Club. The session was presided over by Dr Abubacker Siddique President, School Management Committee. Principal Mr.Deepak Patankar, Vice Principal Mr Mammikutty, Assistant Vice Principals, Mr Vipindas and Mrs Anita Rose graced the occasion with their valuable presence. Dr.Abubacker Siddique in his address stressed on the need to stay away from using tobacco products. Principal, Mr Deepak Patankar in his speech highlighted on the harmful effects of tobacco. He also emphasized on how tobacco usage can lead to cancer. Harmful effects of tobacco were highlighted by Mr. Mohandas, Head of the Department, Physical Education, in an engaging presentation. His presentation covered various aspects including the health risk and benefits of quitting tobacco. The celebration culminated with Vote of thanks by PG Biology teacher, Mrs Prema G Krishnan.

The event not only educated students about the dangers of tobacco but also fostered a sense of collective responsibility towards promoting healthier tobacco- free environment.
