EARTH DAY is celebrated around the world with a beautiful message - “Our continuing efforts in our everyday lives will make this beautiful planet thrive.” Earth Day is a proof that even one person can make a global impact in a positive way. Indian School Salalah celebrated Earth day on 22nd April 2024 in the school premises. The event was graced by the Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar, Vice Principal Mr. Mammikutty, Assistant Vice Principals Mr Vipindas and Mrs. Anita Rose, Staff and Students. 

The day’s celebration commenced with a special assembly by class VIII students in the school premises. The theme of Earth Day 2024 was “Planet vs Plastic”. The emphatic speeches by Anha Fathima and Liya Fathima highlighted the responsibility to preserve the habitable planet earth for our future generation. The Earth day pledge was administered by Rithika VP.

Assistant Vice Principal Mr. Mammikutty, Assistant Vice Principal Mr Vipindas and Mr. Unnikrishnan, HOD Social Science department planted saplings in the school premises. The main aim was to create an awareness among students on the benefits of tree plantation.

The students of classes V and VI made informative bookmarks and colourful badges as a part of different activities for Earth day. Students of classes VII & VIII displayed handmade posters highlighting the harmful effects of pollution, to reduce the use of plastics, the necessity to save trees, water and our natural resources.

The students of primary wing (Grade 3 & 4) enthusiastically participated in myriad of activities conducted in the classes to commemorate our benevolent Mother Earth. An Earth Day flyer was displayed in the class groups to teach the importance of Earth Day and the need to preserve and conserve their self-sustaining planet. The activities started with the students taking a pledge to preserve and conserve the planet Earth. The students of class three made greeting cards with waste materials and class four students made Chinese lanterns using bottles, thread and balloons. The primary section also decided to keep the classes plastic-free and the message was conveyed to parents. The students demonstrated their artistic and creative talents with great zeal and enthusiasm.

The students of classes 1 and 2 actively participated in the special assembly conducted in the KG block. A thought provoking skit on “No to plastic” conveyed a strong message to one and all about the little things one can do in order to take care of our Earth. A soulful action song was dedicated to our blue planet and to celebrate the Mother Earth. Educational and action-oriented activities were conducted to remind the students of their duties towards ‘Mother Nature’. Saplings were planted by each class to support the “Go Green” drive. The tiny tots took an oath on the Earth Day to keep their environment clean and plant more trees. The children actively interacted with Mrs Subha, Primary-Science-subject in charge on the importance of protecting the earth by avoiding plastics and growing trees.

The assembly concluded with National Anthems of Oman and India. The tiny tots enthusiastically participated in the earth day celebrations. It was a great day to showcase environmental education and to engage the whole student community in making a difference.
