Indian School Salalah always gives utmost importance to the health, safety and hygiene of students and the precautionary measures taken by the school during the pandemic is a testimony for it. To give experiential learning to the students, to help them to emerge as good leaders and to gain confidence in making their own decisions, Clubs at school level is of paramount importance. Indian School Salalah has various clubs and one more to the list is the HSE club.
To create a society of personalities with a community sense, which is the essence of good citizenship, Indian School Salalah formally inaugurated the Health, Safety and Environment club on 3rd December 2023 in the school auditorium. The chief Guest of the day Dr Shaji P Sreedhar, Treasurer, SMC and Chairman of HSE club, President of the School Management Committee Dr. Aboobacker Siddique, Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar, Vice Principal Mr. Mammikutty and Assistant Vice Principals Mr. Vipindas and Mrs. Anita Rose graced the occasion with their valuable presence.
The function commenced with a formal welcome address by Master. Aarav Malavya of class 7 E. It was followed by the Presidential address by Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar. In his speech he stressed on the importance of following the guidelines given by the Board for the functioning of the club. Dr. Abubacker Siddique, President, School Management Committee expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the teachers and the students for this initiative. The Chief Guest Dr Shaji P Sreedhar in his inaugural address commended that not only physical health but mental health and social well-being are equally important. He also said that a good and clean environment is always required for a good living. Vice Principal Mr Mummikutty, who is also the President of HSE club, in his introductory speech familiarized the members with the objectives of HSE and also said that the goal of the club is to reduce damage to life and property. Assistant Vice Principals Mr. Vipindas and Mrs Anita Rose in their speeches highlighted that it is the responsibility of every student to ensure that their surroundings are kept neat and tidy and that it must begin from their classrooms. They also ensured continuous support for all the club related activities.
A Pledge on Health, Safety and Environment was administered by Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar. The dignitaries and the club members took the oath with determination and commitment. It was then followed by sapling presentation to the HSE conveners Mrs Prema G Krishnan (Health), Mr James Varghese (Safety) and Mr. Unnikrishnan (Environment). Fire Extinguishing using CO2 and Foam fire extinguishers was demonstrated to the club members by the HSE coordinator Mr. Mohandass on the ground. The students were also given an opportunity to extinguish fire under the proper guidance of the HSE teachers.
The Inaugural function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Mohandass, HOD, Physical Education Department and the coordinator of the HSE club. The entire programme was enthusiastically compered by Master Kashyap Patel of class 9 C. The club members are all set to actively participate in the upcoming activities scheduled for this academic year.
