World Students’ Day is celebrated on 15th October across the globe to mark the birth anniversary of Indian Aerospace scientist, Bharat Ratna, educationist and the former President of India Dr. A.P. J. Abdul Kalam. The day is marked to acknowledge his efforts towards student welfare and education. 


Science Department of Indian School Salalah celebrated the World Students’ Day on 19th October 2023 in the school auditorium. Chief guest and key note speaker for the event was Dr. Abubacker Siddique, President of school management committee. Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar, Vice principal Mr. Mammikutty, AVPs Mr. Vipin Das and Mrs. Anita Rose, K.G in-charge Mrs. Anjali Radhakrishnan graced the occasion with their esteemed presence. Students of grade IX were audience for the event.


The theme for this year’s celebration was ‘If you FAIL never give up because fail means FIRST ATTEMPT IN LEARNING’ brilliantly quoted by Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam. It is the most original and appropriate theme for World Students Day 2023. It reminds us to view failure in a positive light. By embracing failure as an opportunity for growth, building resilience, fostering a growth mindset, and overcoming the fear of failure. 


The event commenced with a warm address by Miss J. Rinatya Hannah of IX B who formally welcomed the gathering. A digital biographical sketch on exemplary life of Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam depicting his childhood life and struggles, a quest for making self-reliant India, importance of youth for the development of country, video of his self-composed poem on the theme ‘Vision of Union’ recited by him, valuable thoughts along with short video clippings of his incisive speeches given on various remarkable occasions was screened by Miss. Gowri Gopakumar, Master Savanth. G.T and Master Adidev Mohan of XI A. The audience was captivated by their detailed and well-researched insights into his life.

In his interactive session keynote speaker for the event Dr. Abubacker Siddique greeted all the students on this momentous occasion. While expounding the theme of World Students’ Day he asked a few questions to students on Dr. Kalam’s life and his contributions to ISRO and DRDO. He gave gifts to the winners. He advised the students to have a great aim in life, acquire knowledge, be courageous, work hard and achieve their goals. 


Following this Miss Raizel Rayna XII A recited a touching poem in memory of Dr. Kalam paying homage to his vision. The event took an educational turn with a digital symposium on India’s Moon Mission ‘Chandrayan’. Master Yeasrif Rehman and Master Shaikh Shams Tawsif XI B conducted an informative session on the mission’s significance, objectives and achievements. They showcased images and data from the mission, making it engaging and enlightening experience for the audience. 


Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar rendered a speech in which he shared his thoughts on Dr.Kalam’s legacy and importance of inspiring youth to dream big and achieve their goals. Indian School Salalah believes in the potential of Students who are future pillars of India and World at large by paying homage to this great soul, he added. 


The event concluded with formal vote of thanks delivered by Miss. Devna Remya Joyish IX A. The event was a fitting tribute to the life and contributions of Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, inspiring the students and attendees to dream big, innovate and work towards a brighter future.
