“A good teacher is like a candle that consumes itself to light the way for others”.

Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year in India on 5th September to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. S Radhakrishnan, the former President of India, who was a great teacher, a well- known diplomat, scholar and a philosopher. The Management Committee of Indian School Salalah organized Teachers’ Day celebration at Hotel Hamdan Plaza on 15th September 2023 to acknowledge and honour their teachers.

Dr. Shaji Sreedhar , Treasurer of SMC formally welcomed the gathering. In his welcome address he appreciated the wonderful efforts of the teaching faculty in scholastic and co scholastic areas.

Dr. Abubacker Siddique , President of the School Management Committee, in his address expressed his appreciation for teachers and the significance of teacher’s role to enhance the overall wellbeing of the students. He also said, ‘The progress of students can be tracked by regular interactions between teachers and parents’.

The Academic Chairperson and Convener of SMC Dr. Muhammed Yousoof formally thanked the teachers for the noble sacrifices and gestures done for the wellbeing of the children. He highlighted the importance of four goals of the school and its accomplishments – academics, infrastructure, staff welfare and parent’s satisfaction. He threw light on the array of academic development plans like Implementation of VLE, honorarium for remedial classes, artificial intelligence labs and a vision to see ISS ahead in terms of academics and infrastructure.

The Principal, Mr. Deepak Patankar in his address extended his warm teacher’s day wishes to all the staff. He asserted on the importance and advantages of reading, updating oneself on current affairs and enhancing knowledge and skills in teaching profession in the current era. 

The president of SMC Dr. Abubacker Siddique and the esteemed members of the SMC along with the Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar and Vice Principal Mr. Mammikutty honoured  Mr. Vipin Das, AVP and Mrs Anjali, KG Incharge who were the recipients of Navin Asher Kazi awards-Excellence in teaching with a brocaded traditional shawl as a mark of respect. The day also witnessed the honoring of AVP-Mrs. Anita Rose to acknowledge her contribution for leading the NABET team. The SMC also honoured the Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar, for his relentless service and farsighted vision and brilliant coordination in nurturing the institution. Mrs Divya Manoj-(English faculty) was ranked FIRST in the school and was conferred with the award for excellence in teaching for Indian School Salalah from Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman.

Teachers Mrs Angel, Mr Rohit and Dr. Shariq Mohammed, member SMC won the raffle draw by Malabar Gold and diamonds. Teachers Mr Latheesh , Mrs Remcy and KG nurse Ms.Preetha were the winners of Lucky dip.

The teachers lent colour to the occasion by showcasing their talents with various entertainment programmes. It kicked off with the Flash Mob by the teachers which was one of the main attractions of the day. Malayalam Poem recitation by Mr.Sinu Krishnan gripped the audience. The scintillating semi classical dances performance by Mrs Dhanya  and Mr Saji mesmerized the spectators. Mrs Prema and Mrs. Sangeetha captivated the viewers with their individual soothing melodious songs. The Lazy Dance by teachers amused the audience with a spontaneous dance performance. 

The dumb charades game hosted by Mr.Joby was fun and entertainment to the teachers. The audience actively participated in the Choral rendezvous Hosted by teachers Mrs Deepthi and Mrs Bindu. The School Management Committee members, teaching and nonteaching staff actively participated in the games organized by CCA and team. Prizes were distributed to the winners.

The programme came to an end with the cake cutting ceremony and vote of thanks proposed by the Vice Principal Mr. Mammikutty. The comperers Mr.Amit Rathod, Mr.Joby Varghese, Mrs. Hema Jayadharan and Mrs. Shaheen Abraham added grace to the celebration with their  compering. The momentous evening came to an end with a sumptuous dinner.
