ANNUAL SCOUTS AND GUIDES CAMP HELD IN INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH
The scout and Guides Unit of Indian School Salalah conducted the Annual camp on 14 & 15 November 2019 in the school premises. 218 Students from Class VI to VIII and 25 teachers reported at 4 p.m on 14 November 2019 for the two day camp. All the scouts and guides were assembled in the School Quadrangle. They were enlightened about the purpose of the camp, learning outcomes of the camp and rules and regulations of the camp by Scouts and guides in-charge Mrs. Ponni Baskar. The scouts and guides were divided into 10 units.
The camp began with an enlightening session on ‘Fire Extinguishing’ which helped the students to learn about the fire and how to extinguish them. Followed by that, principal Dr. Deepak Patankar advised the children to love their parents and talk to them. He encouraged students to participate in all such activities. Tips to improve concentration were given at the end of the session.
The second session was by Dr. Abubacker Siddique Dental Surgeon on ‘Dental Hygiene’. During his session, he instructed the students to take daily preventive care which includes proper brushing and flossing. He said that proper brushing and flossing will help to stop problems before they develop and is much less painful, expensive and worrisome than treating conditions that have been allowed to progress.
At the end of the day, the camp fire was kindled by four scouts and guides representing four cardinal directions. Cultural programmes like comedy skit, mime, dance etc were performed by the scouts and guides.
The second day commenced with B.P exercises. All faith prayer highlighted the significance of peace and tolerance to all religions followed by flag hoisting ceremony. Dr Syed Ahsan Jamil President SMC graced the occasion with his presence, he hoisted the Scouts and Guides Flag. After that, games and competitions were conducted for different patrols by Scouts masters and Guide captains.
Dr Syed Ahsan Jamil President SMC in his address said that it was a great honour to receive the scarf. He shared that camps help the students to help each other and become closer with their friends. He appreciated the Scouts and Guides wing for their efforts, he expressed that discipline is essential to succeed in life and Camp experience will help the children to inculcate the value of discipline and self-dependent. He reminded the students to be thankful for others and be prepared to live for others.
During the camp, the scout masters and Guide captains conducted various sessions on knot practice, wealth out of waste, cloth bag making, button holding, making photo frame,3D Star making, Calligraphy etc. The craft work done by the students were exhibited in the school quadrangle.
The camp provided an excellent experience for the students to develop their creativity, positive social interaction, leadership, team spirit and meaningful participation.
