ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET 2019 HELD AT INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH

The opening ceremony of Annual Athletic meet had a grand start with great zeal and excitement on 6th November 2019. The School Head Girl, Miss. Elsa Mariam Eldhose along with The Deputy Head Boy, Mast. Naman Varma pinned the badges to the chief guest Dr Syed Ashan Jamil, President of the School Management Committee and other esteemed guests. The day’s proceedings began with the Oman National Anthem followed by the Indian National Anthem. The melodious rendition of the theme song enthralled the audience. Mr. Parvinder Singh from the Department of Physical Education, then delivered the formal Welcome address. The chief guest Dr Syed Ahasan Jamil  hoisted the flag and declared the meet open. Soon after the solemn oath was administered by the torch bearer and last year’s sport’s champion Miss. Cheryl Johanna Meeran.

The spectacular sports drill by the students of Class II was performed with precision and perfection and was characterised by perfect synchronisation. The highlights of the evening were Fruit Collection, Through the hoop 80 m Race, 50 m Race by primary level students and a few exciting Relay races of the middle school students. It was a moment of great pride for the athletes as they stood on the victory stand and received their medals from the members of the SMC.

The Guest of Honour Mr. Javed Akther, Senior Performance Improvement Manager, Salalah Methanol Company presented the trophies to the individual champions in various categories: The Yellow House of the Primary Section bagged the championship with 56 points and the Red House received the runners up position with 37 points. Mast. Joseph Vivek Basil, Sports Secretary proposed the formal Vote of Thanks.

On 8th November, 2019, Indian School Salalah witnessed a grand closing ceremony of Annual Athletic Meet 2019. The air was filled with the cheering and tons of encouragement for the students of their Houses and School. Mr.Yasir Salim Mohammed Tabook, Sr.Regional Manager – Dhofar Governorate, Bank Muscat graced the occasion as chief guest. He was received with a grand guard of honour by the school prefectorial team, Scouts and Guides unit and the school band. He was received and escorted to the pavilion by the President of the SMC Dr Syed Ahsan Jamil,  Principal, Mr. Deepak Patankar, and other members of the SMC.

The ceremony commenced with the National Anthem of Oman and India. The display by the class VIII students was vibrant and was appreciated as they moved about gracefully in synchronization with music. The school band gave a wonderful performance.

 80mts, 200mts and 4×100mts relay were the final day events for group A, B, C and D. The neck to neck competition was witnessed among four houses in 4×100mt relay.  Joseph Vivek Basil was the “Fastest Boy Athlete” in 80 mts race. Another highlight of this athletic meet was the race conducted for the Special Need Group children. The parents also participated enthusiastically in the event scheduled for them. The first place was bagged by Mr Roju Gadag and Mrs Nayana Gadag, the second by Dr. Navaneetha Krishnan and Mrs Vishnu Priya and the third by Dr. Ernest and Mrs. Seena Ernest. One of the most exciting events of the day was the teachers’ event where many teachers including the Principal and AVP participated enthusiastically. The winner of the event was Mr. Antony Samuel and the runner up position was won by Mrs Ananthalakshmi (AVP)

This was followed by the much awaited prize distribution ceremony that started with the annual sports report presented by Mr Ishwar Deshmuk, HOD-Sports Department. Followed by his report, the Chief Guest Mr. Yasir Salim Mohammed Tabook in his address remarked that he felt honoured to be a part of the great event. He stated that sports enable the students to be fit and strong all the time. He emphasized that only a sound mind dwells in a sound body. As a gesture of gratitude, the Chief Guest, Mr. Yasir Salim Mohammed Tabook, was presented a memento by  Dr. Syed Ahsan Jamil President of SMC accompanied by the school Principal Mr.Deepak Patankar and members of SMC.

The Yellow house emerged as champions in group A and B with 155 points as well as in C and D with 79 points, while Red house with 129 points and Green house with 79 points won the runners up position in group in A and B  and in group C and D respectively. Cheryl Johanna Meeran (Green House) and Joseph Vivek Basil ( Green House) of Group A (winners of maximum points of 20) won the sports champion trophy. Another stupendous achievement was the Individual Champion-Nicole Sara Ernest from Group B girls, who won the maximum points and first place in the four events.

 The individual champions as well as the house champions were honoured with medals and tropies by the Chief Guest, Mr.Yasir Salim Mohammed Tabook and his wife Mrs.Khayar Tabook. The winners were awarded medals and tropies by the Principal, President of SMC, present and former Presidents of the School Management Committee. The event was witnessed by honourable dignitaries, guests, parents, teachers and students. The vibrant congratulatory song sung by the school choir, added fervor to the occasion.

Dr. Abubacker Siddique, Task force sports committee received memento for his contributions to cluster meet and Sports. Mr. Ibrahim, General Manger, Lulu Hyper market and Mr. Sunil, Branch Manager, Dhofar Beverages received mementos as a token of love and appreciation for their sponsorship. The First aid team comprising of nurses Ms Rose Mary, Ms Veena and assistant Mr.Gangaswamy were honoured for their relentless work during the Spots Meet.

The Athletic meet concluded with the lowering of the school flag. As per the custom, the honour of lowering the flag to mark the end of the month-long sporting activities was given to the School Champions of Group A, Cheryl Johanna Meeran and Joseph Vivek Basil. The lowering of the school flag was followed by the Vote of thanks proposed by Mrs Ponni Bhaskar, faculty of Physical education department.
