INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH CELEBRATED NATIONAL UNITY DAY
Indian School Salalah celebrates National unity day also known as Rashtriya Ekta Divas, to mark the birth anniversary of the great leader Sardar Vallabhai Patel. National Unity Day is celebrated on the 31 of October every year. Rashtriya Ekta Divas or National Day was introduced by the government of India in 2014.The aim of introducing this day is to pay tribute to Sardar Vallabhai Patel who played a key role in unifying India and for his contributions for the nation as the then Deputy Prime-minister and the home-minister.
A special morning assembly was organized by the EVS teachers (primary section) in the auditorium. The programme commenced with an impressive speech on ‘National Unity Day’ by Ms. Pratiksha Pramod of Class III B. Children dressed up in traditional costumes represented the states of India and performed the Hindi patriotic songs ‘Saare jahan se acha’ and ‘Mile sur mera tumhara.’ A beautiful video was shown on ‘Unity in diversity’ to cultivate the value of unity among them. Primary In-charge,. Ms. Anita Rose in her address to the students highlighted the efforts made by Sardar Vallabhai Patel for uniting India. Ms. Noorjahan (faculty-primary) concluded the assembly with a Pledge on Unity and the National Anthem.
In the senior section, the celebration of National Unity Day was organized by the Social Science Department. The students of class VIII conducted the programme in the school auditorium. The programme commenced with a welcome speech addressed by Miss.Sakshi. Miss. Raizel delivered speech on the importance of celebrating the auspicious day. She also focused on the vision of Sardar Vallabhai Patel which paved the way to unify the country in the real sense. Various Indian dance forms like Kuchipudi, Gharbha, Bharatnatyam, kathak ,Dandia, Bhangra etc depicted the rich culture and traditions of the nation. Miss.Derina and Miss. Haripriya conducted an interesting quiz to which the students responded with enthusiasm and excitement.
The students performed a mime to depict one of the greatest features of India-Unity in diversity, which gave a clear message to the audience that all religions are equally important and that India is a secular country. The programme continued with the students taking a pledge led by Master. Shravan in the spirit of unification and to solemnly resolve to make one’s own contributions to ensure internal security of the country.
Mr.Unnikrishnan, Head of the department of Social Science addressed the gathering and appreciated the students and teachers for the efforts taken to put up such a wonderful programme to mark the significance of the day. He spoke about the important role played by Sardar Vallabhai Patel in the unification of India and how well he had solved the issues related to various states which had to be annexed to India soon after Independence. He advised the present generation students to recall and cherish the valuable principles passed on by the great leaders and follow them practically for a better future. The programme came to an end with the vote of thanks proposed by Miss.Amina. The occasion provided an opportunity to reaffirm the inherent strength and resilience of the nation.
