ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET HELD AT INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH

Sports and athletic have been an integral part of Indian School Salalah since its inception. Keeping up the tradition, this year too, Indian School Salalah organized its Annual Sports Meet with the same flamboyant spirit among its students, a venue to display their physical prowess.
Dr. Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Yaafai, Director of Private Health Establishments, Dhofar Governorate, graced the occasion as chief guest. He was received with a grand guard of honour  by the schools’ prefectorial team and Scouts and Guides unit. As per the tradition of the school, the Chief Guest was presented with a bouquet, and a badge was pinned. The Chief Guest was accompanied by Dr. Abubacker Siddique, the Sports Committee Chairman, other members of the School Management Committee and the school principal, Mr. T.R. Brown. The school Head Boy Sourabh Singh and Head Girl Maria Beryl, Deputy Head boy Aryan Debashish Bhattacharya and Deputy Head Girl Elsa Mariam Eldhose escorted them to their seats.
Dr. Abubacker Siddique, the Sports Committee Chairman, addressed the assembly of athletes and welcomed the chief guest Dr. Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Yaafai. He explained the  role of sports in a student’s in doing better in academics. On this occasion, he appreciated Master Vivek Joseph who represented the CBSE Oman Athletic Cluster team in the Nationals in U-17 category. He used the platform to congratulate the athletes and players who represented the school and CBSE Oman Cluster at the National level Football U-19 Boys, Kho kho U19 Girls and Taekwondo who brought laurels to its alma matter.
The event commenced with the hoisting of the flag by the chief guest, which was followed by the Torch bearing taken around the field by the previous year’s Sports Champion, Master Nazar El Khats. Soon after, a well synchronized display of mass drill was put up by class 8 students.
The track and field events included a number of races such as 80 mtrs, 200mtr, 4x100 mtrs relays  for different categories. The  atmosphere was charged with zeal and fervor with the call for the finals of 80 metres. With its competitive spirit unleashed, the team to reckon with as it went to win the race is the Champion House-Yellow House with (185 points) in Group A&B while Blue House grabbed the trophy in group C&D with 114 points. Blue and yellow Houses had to be contented with the runners up position in group A& B and in group C&D respectively.
After the students’ events the parents also participated enthusiastically in the events scheduled for them. Mrs and Mr. Vijay were adjudged as the winners. Second and third positions were bagged by Mrs.& Mr. Prakash and Mrs& Mr Sanjeev Singh.
Ten new records, in various categories, were made during the Meet. Three of the athletes  from the senior category emerged as the winners of the coveted ‘pure gold medal’  for securing the maximum points in their respective categories. Joseph Vivek Basil( group B), Hussain Ahmed and Cheryl Johanna Meeran( Group A) were adjudged eligible for this reward. Cheryl Johanna Meeran, who won the maximum number of points in Group A was declared as the sports champion of this years' athletic meet.
Special competitions were conducted under the aegis of CSE of the school for the differently abled students  in events such as 50 mtrs, 100mtrs, target Throw and through the Hoop.
The Chief Guest enjoyed every moment of the competition. In his address, Dr. Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Yaafai asserted that the school is doing exceedingly well in sports and games and assured the institution of every possible support from his side. He was happy, jubilant and congratulated the administration for the best performance and effort of the athletes. He highlighted the importance of sports and games to lead a healthy life.
Sports and games report was read by Mr. Ishwar Deshmukh, HOD, physical education department. He highlighted the achievements of the school during the academic year, especially at CBSE Oman Cluster level and at the National Level where the school made a niche for itself by excelling in almost all the events it took part.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Yaafai, gave away the Medals and trophies to the individual champions as well as the Champion Houses. The Present and former members of the School Management Committee gave away the medals to other winners. A number of notable dignitaries from the Indian Diaspora witnessed the event. A melodious congratulatory song by the school choir  added fervour to the occasion.
On this occasion, as a gesture of gratitude, the chief guest, Dr. Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Yaafai, was presented with a memento by the school principal Mr. T.R. Brown and Dr. Abubacker Siddique, the sports committee chairman of the School management Committee.
The Meet concluded with lowering of the School Flag followed by a vote of thanks by Mr. Bhupendar Shekhawat of the physical education department.  The atmosphere was echoed with the cheering of the students for their Houses and school. It was a day filled with sportsmanship, enthusiasm and memories to cherish.
