IT Club- Indian School Salalah celebrates World Computer Security Day

These days, electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and computers make up an important component of our everyday lives. While communication has become easier and more efficient than ever before, these technological advancements have brought with them new concerns about privacy and security. Befitting the need of the hour, the IT Club of Indian School Salalah celebrated World Computer Security Day on 30th November 2017 in the school premises. The objective was to bring awareness among the students about the computer security.

The programme was presided over by Dr. Syed Ahsan Jamil, Covenor of SMC & Chairman Academic sub-committee and was graced by the presence of Mr. Jose Chacko member SMC, Principal Mr.T.R Brown, Vice Principal Mrs. Omana Mathews, Assistant Vice Principal – Administration, Mr.Srinivasan and Assistant Vice Principal – Academics, Mr. C.T.Ramasamy The IT club students had the privilege to attend the session.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Miss. Vanshika of class 11 followed by an address on importance of World Computer Security Day by Mast. Hridith Sudev of class 12, who in his speech discussed about the various threats that cyber world faces today.

Mast. Asim Shaikh of grade 12 talked about Cyber Security Issues.. He in his speech said that, “It is really necessary in today’s Post truth generation and digital world scenario and situation that we must educate ourselves and educate others as well about these matters to create and spread awareness.” Mast. Marshel of grade 7 won everyone’s heart as he presented a computer game created by him. The Computer game aimed at mouse control for the beginners. The game was created without coding and just with hyperlinks, shapes and animations which were totally new to the students and was well appreciated by the audience.

Mast. Krishna from class 11 gave a presentation on the topic "Why you should switch to Linux". He highlighted on the concept of open source architecture and how it manages to stay secure. A brief presentation by Mast. Aadil from class 9 was on ‘Animation’. He talked about the history of animation and how the animation can be very effective in communicating an important message. Mast. Sharon of class 10, addressed a major issue of cyber-attack in his speech. He provided guidelines to the students as how to save themselves from a cyber-attack.

Mast. Nischit Poojari and Mast. Sockalingam of class 12 gave a presentation on Augmented Reality. They said that Augmented reality is one of the newest technology which can be a technological revolution in this century. They gave a demonstration as how to use Augmented Reality in education, tourism, entertainment etc. Mast. Saviyo Therattil from grade 12, gave a talk on how to be safe. It was an informative session giving details of various security tools both hardware and software. It was explained how it is possible to lock a laptop or mobile just like locking a bicycle to a support. The talk ended with a list of general guidelines to ensure maximum protection for the PC.

Mr. Jose Chacko, member SMC in his address, appreciated the hard work of the students and teachers. He also congratulated the students for their very informative and mesmerizing presentations.

Miss. Nandana from class IX, proposed the vote thanks. She, on behalf of IT Club thanked Dr. Debashish C Bhattacharya, President of the school management committee, Dr. Biju T Sayed, Vice President of the School Management Committee, Dr. Syed Ahsan Jamil, Convenor of SMC, Mr. Jose Chacko member SMC, Principal Mr.T.R Brown, and the Teachers of Computer Science Department for their constant support and encouragement. She made a special mention of Mr. Shivithlal, HOD Computer Science Dept and, IT Club Coordinators Mr. Nandakumar & Mr. Mohammed Javed and Teachers of Computer Science Department (Mrs.Anita Rose, Mrs. Saritha, Mrs.Purnima) for their constant support and encouragement.
