Launch of Alumni Registration Portal
It is rightly said, "The seeds we're planting today will grow and become mighty oaks and their branches will run all over the earth." Indian school Salalah is marching majestically towards the 40th year of its existence with its branches growing and flourishing day by day. Indian School Salalah has always come up with innovative ideas and changes. Just a decade away from golden jubilee, here came their new venture the Alumni Registration Portal. Adding one more feather to its cap, Indian school Salalah organised the grand inaugural launch of the Alumni Registration Portal online on 17th Oct 2020. The launching of the grand website commenced with the release of a video which gave a glimpse of the saga of Indian School Salalah from its inception to the current day. Dr Muhammed Yousoof Ismail, the esteemed member of the School Management Committee and chairman of IT committee, in his welcome address, proudly mentioned some of the IT initiatives done by the school during this pandemic such as the school upgradation of the IT infrastructure which includes the upgrading of the servers, the labs, the internet connectivity and the enhancement of the IT resources in the school. Appreciating the teachers, he said that ISS teachers have shown their abilities, not only in the implementation of virtual reality and implementation of the augmented reality to grab the attention and keep the students connected in the online classes. He extended his special welcome to the Chairman, BOD Indian Schools in Oman and the Chief Guest of the ceremony, Mr. Baby Sam Samuel who always provide guidance and support to ensure the quality of Indian Schooling system is at par with international standard. Mr Yousoof also extended a hearty welcome to the President, School Management committee Indian School Salalah, Dr. Syed Ahsan Jamil, other esteemed members of SMC, dignitaries, guests and all the viewers. After the welcome address, Dr. Baby Sam Samuel, Chairman, Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman was invited to felicitate and to launch the much-awaited Alumni Registration Portal. Addressing the audience on the occasion, he expressed that Alumini association is an opportunity for all the students to be present for their Alma Mater as a host for future generations and alumni can show the students the glimpse of the life ahead. He mentioned the focus of BOD to balance 21st century skills that ISS students need to be kept with overall holistic competence and well- being including emotional and spiritual growth. He further added that despite the severe restrictions placed by the pandemic Indian Schools community has been able to adapt quickly and offer continued learning for the students and finding new ways to interact with the students. Dr. Syed Ahsan Jamil, the President of the School Management Committee, in his speech, highlighted the purpose of forming an Alumni Association, is to bring all the alumni to a common platform to connect. He elaborated the rich legacy of Indian School Salalah since 1981 and appreciated the contribution of all the previous Principals and Presidents of SMC Indian School Salalah. He mentioned the phenomenal record of ISS where it has seen a very active alumni of more than 5000 students passing out from under its wings. Considering the importance of the schooling system in one’s life, he said that the identity of the person is defined by his Alma Mater. He encouraged the Alumni to extend their support to the students and institute. In his address, the Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar stated, “In an organization Alumni are the reflection of its past, representation of its present and a link to its future.” Further, he spoke regarding the progress of ISS so far and highlighted that ISS is serving many expatriates communities along with Indian community. He added that considering the difficulty of being physically present on any occasion, ISS has decided to make use of digital platform to bring all the alumni under one roof. He urged all the alumni to register on the official alumni portal and to stay connected with the school and extend their support, cooperation and expertise. The event was packed with fun, emotions and entertainment. It was an agglomeration of alumni from diverse background and was blessing for the students, faculty, and staff looking at their current position and working status. The alumni lent colour to the occasion by showcasing their talents. A very versatile artist, alumni Mrs. Soumya Sanathanan, who has etched her name in almost all the genres of music, sang a melodious song. Another reminiscent performance, given by alumni Lakshmi who mesmerized the audience through her harmonious song. Cherishing the old memories with new hopes, the first batch (1994) alumni Mr. Somesh Panwar, presently serving our nation in the rank of a commander at naval headquarters Delhi, shared the memorable moments of his school time. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the teachers and the staff of ISS for showing the students the right path. Alumni Mr. Srikanth Nair, the Associate Lecturer at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia took the viewers to the depths of memories to relive the unforgettable moments of school days. Alumni Dr Manu Jacob, a senior specialist, Head of Orthodontics and cranio facial orthopaedics, Sultan Qaboos Hospital, Salalah expressed that ISS is the place where they learnt and experienced so many good things and he wanted to relish those memories forever. Dr. Bincy Rafeek and Mr. Anwar Ali of 1999 batch also shared their emotions and feelings for their temple of learning, Indian school Salalah. They expressed their gratitude and respect to the teachers who selflessly work to build their future. They opined that the key reason for their success is the platform the institute provided them and the amount of support provided by the school during their study period. Furthermore, Alumni after sharing their experiences assured all kinds of help, support, and cooperation for the betterment of the students and institute as whole. Alumni, Ms. vaibhivi and Ms. Anita brightened the atmosphere with their scintillating musical performance. To make this event memorable, some of the teachers who have completed a long span of their lives in serving ISS with all the dedication and sincerity, shared their experiences, memories and felt nostalgic. Mrs Winnefred Lobo, Mr. Showckat Ali, Mrs Ponni Baskar and Mr Shaji relished those treasured moments of their life. They felt excited and delighted to see their ex- students. They were overwhelmed to listen to the alumni on different prospects of their lives. The power packed musical performance of the energetic faculty from the Department of Physical Education Mr. Parvinder Singh mesmerized everyone present. The inaugural ceremony came to its conclusion with the vote of thanks proposed by the Assistant Vice Principal Mrs Ananthalakshmi.
