INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH CELEBRATES 47TH NATIONAL DAY OF OMAN

Indian School Salalah celebrated the 47th National Day of Oman with great pride and exuberance on 23rd November 2017 in the school premises. To pay tribute to the nation and to promote the national language Arabic, the festivities commenceda week in advance with the observance of the ‘Arabic Week’ from November 13, 2017 to November 19, 2017. The school premise was bedecked with festoons and flags of Oman on this occasion.

The grand inaugural function of the Arabic Week witnessed the presence of Dr. Debashish.C Bhattacharya, President of the School Management Committee, Dr Syed Ahsan Jamil, Convener and Chairman Academic Sub Committee, Principal Mr. T.R Brown, Vice Principal Mrs. Omana Mathews, Assistant Vice Principals Mr. S.Srinivasan (Administration) and Mr. C.T Ramasamy (Academics), Teaching Staff and Students.

The day’s celebration began with the recital of fewverses from the Holy Quran by Miss.Shifa Ajinas of class VIII G. Miss.Michelle Ernest of class XC welcomed the audience to witness the celebrations and to discover the beauty of the language and culture of the country. The programme was anchored by Mast.Saketh and Mast.Aryan Patel of class X C.

The Chief Guest of the Day, Dr. Debashish.C.Bhattacharya, President of the School Management Committee in his inaugural speech emphasized that Arabic civilization is one of the oldest civilization in the world and he urged the students to utilize the opportunity to love the language which will help them to know the civilization better. This was followed by the address of Dr. Syed Ahsan Jamil, Convener and Chairman Academic Sub Committee. He stressed on the importance of communication as one of the key factors for better relationship. Principal Mr. T.R Brown, in his address, insisted the students to spread the message that we are truly happy in this wonderful land.

Mast.Aryan DebashishBhattacharya and Miss Afrah Fathima of class X C enlightened the students on the importance of Arabic Language through their speeches in English and Arabic respectively. The students of class VI and VII draped in the national attire captivated the audience with the song ‘Madarasati Ya Madarasati’. The graceful movements of the dancers from the senior classes enthralled the audience. The day’s programme ended with the National Anthem.

In the following days the school witnessed the initiativetaken by the Arabic Department to teach the basics of Arabic language to the entire teaching fraternity of Indian School Salalah. Handouts were distributed to each and every staff for a better understanding of the language.To familiarize the students with the history, tradition and culture of the great nation, a quiz was conducted for the students from classes V to XII and the results were declared on the final day of the celebrations.

The week’s programme attained its culmination with the splendid National Day celebration. The glorious day was commemorated in a befitting manner with zeal and fervor. The stage was ornamented with a large portrait of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Saidand the national flags. The spectacular show was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest, Dr. Debasish.C Bhattacharya, President of the School Management Committee, Principal Mr. T.R Brown, Vice Principal Mrs. Omana Mathews, Assistant Vice Principals Mr. S.Srinivasan (Administration) and Mr. C.T Ramasamy (Academics), Teaching Staff and Students.

The day’s celebration commenced with the recital of few verses from the Holy Quran by Miss. Shifa Ajinas of class VIII G. Miss. Aya Lasheen and Miss. Nissi Linnet of class XC welcomed the gathering and expressed their gratitude and respect to his Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said for his benevolence, his tremendous support and his contributions to the nation.

The emphatic speeches of Miss. Hani of IX A and Mast.Aryan Debashish Bhattacharya of X C in Arabic and English highlighted the significance of the National Day of Oman and stressed that His Majesty was a true ambassador of global peace, brotherhood and harmony. Miss. Zainab of UKG- E in and Mast. Izam of UKG-F in their speeches in Arabic and English,accentuated on the progress and prosperity of the nation that is being achieved during the reign of Sultan Qaboos Bin Said.

Chief Guest Dr. Debashish.C. Bhattacharya, President of the School Management Committee, in his address shared his happiness to celebrate this glorious day and prayed for the golden reign of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, to continue for many decades. He also thanked the Omani Staff of Indian School Salalah for their wonderful contributions to the school and described them as the ‘Jewels on the crown of ISS’. He advised the students that if they want to grow, they must never stop learning. He insisted to make an effort to learn the language, culture, civilization and also to gain knowledge from the very ancient civilization called Arabic Civilization. The winners of the quiz competition. Mast. Shayan Fahimi (VIII C), Miss. Lina (VIII C), Miss.Renah Sidiqqe (VI F) and Afzal (XC) were honoured by Principal Mr. T.R Brown.

The initiative taken by the Arabic department to compile a handwritten magazine under the guidance of Mr.Kaleeludheen ( Staff Editor) and Miss. Leen of Class VIII (Student Editor) was appreciated by all. The magazine was released by the Chief Guest Dr. Debashish.C. Bhattacharya and the creative talent of the Arabic students was unleashed before the audience. This was followed by the presentation of a memento to Mrs. Omana Mathews, Vice Principal of Indian School Salalah, as a token of love from the Department of Arabic, for rendering 35 years of dedicated service to the school.

.The tiny tots of LKG and UKG draped in national colour costumes, mesmerized the audience with their wonderful song and magnificent dance performed in praise of His Majesty. It was followed by an enticing song‘Walidy Sayyidy Ya Abee Qaboos’ sung by the students of classes V,VI and VII. It filled the minds of the every person with love, pride and patriotism.The traditional dance performed by class II boys, enthralled the audience, with the swiftness of their movements to the tune and rhythm of Omani music. The senior boys of Indian School Salalah captivated the audience by their brisk performance of a traditional art form ‘Duff Muttu’ accompanied by a melodious prayer song sung by Salman of IX F for the long life and good health of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said and for the development of the nation. The vibrant Arabic dance by the senior girls was the icing on the cake. The elegant movement of the dancers left the audience spell bound.

Vice Principal Mrs. Omana Mathews in her address expressed her gratitude to the ruler of Oman, the people and the country. She also thanked the Arabic department( Mr. Sowcat Ali (HOD), Mr. Suhaib and Mr. Kaleeluddin) for honouring her and appreciated the department for putting up an excellent show. The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Cheryl of XC. It was followed by the National Anthem of Oman and India. The power packed compering team comprised of Mast. Saketh, Miss. Michelle Ernest, Mast. Muzammil,Mast. Shihabudheen, Mast. Afzal, and Mast. Devaprasad Rajan from class X.
