IAYP UNIT OF INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH UNDERTOOK AN EXPEDITION TO MUSCAT

As a part of enhancing the learning experience and the International Award for Young People (IAYP) of Indian School Salalah conducted an expedition to Muscat and Nizwa   on 10, 11 and 12 of May 2018.The group consisted of 46 Dukes Awardees of classes 10th and 11th accompanied by three teachers.   The students braced themselves to understand and reflect upon the vast multitude of the cultural, geographical, socio-politic and climate diversity of Muscat and Nizwa.
The group set off on May 10, Thursday at 4 pm and reached their first destination, Nizwa at late night. On the second day, Friday 11 May, the group started their exciting expedition activities at Al Hoota Cave. The awardees were enlivened to discover the archeological sites of Oman, estimated to be over 2 million years old. After having a memorable time witnessing the ancient remains at Al Hoota Cave, the students went to visit Nizwa Fort. Having a good sight seeing of the Nizwa Fort, the team proceeded to Nizwa Souk where the awardees came to comprehend the traditional arts and crafts of Oman. After the lunchtime, the Duke awardees got off to their next destination, the capital city, Muscat. Roving around the Matra Cornish area and the Matra Souk enlightened the students’ knowledge about the traditional jewellery designs and ornaments followed by a visit to Al Qurum Mall.
On 12 May, the group visited The Sultan’s Armed Forces Museum where they witnessed  the high range of arms and ammunitions used over in different periods by the Oman Army. The team continued their journey to Barka Palace and then to the National Museum to observe and understand the eternal heritage and cultural richness of the country. The expedition came to its conclusion with the visit to Al Noman Zoo in Barka. The students were astonished to see the diverse species of animals and birds that were present at the zoo.
With the rich memories of the expedition, the batch returned to Salalah on 13May, Sunday at 6 am. The expedition to Nizwa and Muscat was highly edifying and entertaining journey for the students.
