GRAND OPENING OF ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET AT INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH

 

Much awaited Annual Sport Athletic meet of Indian School Salalahwitnessed a Grand Openingon 24th October, 2017 amidst great mirth, verve and camaraderie. Champions are made when potential is converted into performance. Celebrating health and happiness has been the tradition at Indian school Salalah and to continue with this tradition, every year school organizes Annual Sport Athletic Meet.

The chief guest for the sports meet, Dr. Debashish C Bhattacharya, President of the school management committee was  received by the esteemed members of the School Management committee, the Principal Mr.T.R Brown, Vice Principal Mrs. Omana Mathews, Assistant Vice Principal – Administration,Mr.Srinivasan andAssistant Vice Principal – Academics, Mr. C.T.Ramasamy. The school head girl Miss RitikaRaju  and head boy Master HridithSudev pinned up the badge and warmly welcomed the chief Guest Dr. Debashish C Bhattacharya, and as he was being escorted to his seat, he was presented with a guard of honour by the very active Scouts and Guides wing of the school, accompanied with the school band. As a token of love and appreciation a bouquet was presented to the honourable chief guest Dr. Debashish C Bhattacharya by Miss Hazel Babuof class V.

The four houses led by their Captains and Vice Captains were all set to prove their abilities as true athletes on the grounds of ISS.As they stood there in high spirits, the school choir presented a melodious song, to welcome the august gathering. 

Dr. Biju T Sayed, Vice President of the School Management Committee and Chairman Sports Committee formally welcomed the chief guest, illustrious guests and the enthusiastic gathering. In his speech Dr. Biju T Sayed mentioned the highlights of the victories in various inter-school Oman CBSE cluster sports events achieved by the young sportsmen of Indian School Salalah. He wished the students many more achievements in future and advised the students to display true sportsmanship and glorify their respective houses. He, in his speech said, “The importance of sports and games in school encompass not only the benefits of physical activity but also it increases metal alertness making it vital as part of the school activities. It is imperative for the school children to have access to sports and games as it promotes social and physical wellbeing of a student.”

The Chief Guest Dr. Debashish C Bhattacharya, escorted by Principal MrT.R.Brown, hoisted the flag and released the Mascot “Bunny the Champ”, proclaiming the sports meet open. The symbolic lighting of the torch was carried out by school’s last year’s Sports Champion Miss FathimaIfrath bearing the torch which was followed by the Oath taking ceremony. The oath was taken by the torch bearer Miss FathimaIfrath with the students solemnly pledging to maintain the spirit of true sportsmanship and respecting and abiding by the rules that govern them, in the true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of sport and the honor of the school.

The day witnessed nail biting competitions, exciting victories and near misses for all the four houses. The evening become more electrifying as 27 events took place consisting heats and finals. The highlights of the evening were the three major victories which grabbed everyone’s attention as new records were made. In Group A, girl’s category Ann Mathews from Green house made a new record in 800 m race. Another record was made by Hasher Iftikar from Yellow house in group C, boy’s category in 800 m race. And in group A, boy’s category, in 5000 m race, AnswafSiddiq from yellow house made a new record. As the athletes reached the victory line one could witness the school campus overflowing with the cheers and roars of applauds. The gathering then witnessed the heats and finals of the track and field events. The athletes were seen competing for the respective positions, abiding by the rules, trying their best to procure glories for their houses.

The chief guest for the sports meet, Dr. Debashish C Bhattacharya, President of the school management committee then addressed the gathering. In his address he appreciated the efforts taken by the students in bringing glory to school. He specially highlighted the contribution of Mr. Naser Ahmed Basra, one of the generous benefactors who played a major role in the face-lifting of the school playground. As proper diet plays an important role in the growth and development of a sports person, the school understands this well and thus the chief guest for the sports meet, Dr. Debashish C Bhattacharya further announced that the school will take care of the proper diet of those players and athletes who are preparing themselves for various sports events in school.

The opening ceremony concluded with the prize distribution for the winners of the various games and track events. The chief guest for the sports meet, Dr. Debashish C Bhattacharya, President of the school management committee, and the other dignitaries gave away the prizes to the proud winners, who walked away with their trophies and medals along with triumphant smiles. The students applauded and cheered with double the sound when the names of the teachers who had won in various sports events were announced.  The victorious staff members were awarded with scintillating trophies.

The first day of the four day athletic meet came to an end with the vote of thanks proposed by Mr.RohitKanojiya, faculty Physical Education Department.
